CRE8TIVITY 006: “Dan Farr” (Blog)
I (Dylan) had the opportunity of meeting DAN FARR just before the 1st Salt Lake Comic Comic Con back in 2013. He was a guest on a “movie show” that Tony Toscano was producing at BEAU (Broadview University) for CW30.
When I first met Dan Farr, was a quiet and humble man, who probably had no idea what he was getting into. He is still just as humble and quiet, but now along with his team, just wants to put on the best show they can. He is someone that I consider a friend and very much admire him as a businessman and entrepreneur. Enjoy the brief interview below.

B I O G R A P H Y
Dan Farr is a serial entrepreneur who has spent his career surrounding himself with creative and talented people. Dan co-founded DAZ 3D Inc. in 2000. DAZ 3D is an industry-leading company that develops and publishes 3D digital content and software for artists, designers, photographers, animators and other creative professionals and hobbyists. During his tenure there he was instrumental in driving the product strategy for the company with a strong focus on customer needs and satisfaction. One of the benchmark products Dan helped create while at DAZ was DAZ Studio and award-winning Genesis Platform (3D Magazines product of the year in 2011).
Dan has a strong passion for creating products and events that influence people in many ways. In 2005 Dan, along with his partners at DAZ 3D, created an illustrated Christmas book entitled “Mr. Finnegan’s Giving Chest” using DAZ 3D’s products. It was based on a story Dan had worked on for many (several) years and featured the beloved actor Dick Van Dyke. The book sold nearly 100,000 copies and is currently in development for being turned into a movie.
One of Dan’s favorite and most valuable activities at DAZ 3D was speaking face to face with customers and prospective customers at trade shows and other events. Some of the events that were most successful for the company were the Comic Cons held in different cities around the nation. These events were filled with talented artists and creative people. While attending these events, Dan was captivated by the powerful energy and creative expression shown there and wanted to find a way to bring a Comic Con to Utah.
Shortly after leaving DAZ 3D in the spring of 2012, Dan began planning the Salt Lake Comic Con. He partnered with Bryan Brandenburg, whom he had worked with at DAZ 3D, with the goal of creating a world-class event. They surrounded themselves with a great team and amazing( incredible or wonderful) partners like Media One, ABC4/CW TV of Utah, Cumulus Media and many others to launch with a huge splash. The First Annual Salt Lake Comic Con had over 75K attendees and was the largest first-year Comic Con event in history in North America, double the numbers of New York Comic Con’s first year.
